WeedShelf vs Cannabrands: a private menu link that reports back, beside a wholesale marketplace in early access
Cannabrands describes itself as the wholesale platform for cannabis brands and dispensaries: brands publish to a marketplace where licensed dispensaries browse and order, with invoicing, delivery documents and fleet management, and it presents itself as opening state by state. WeedShelf starts from the buyers a cultivator already knows: a METRC-synced menu with one private link per dispensary that records what each buyer does with it. This page sets the two side by side in each one’s own terms.

What Cannabrands is, in its own description
On its public site, cannabrands.app (read October 2026), Cannabrands describes itself as “The wholesale platform for cannabis brands and dispensaries”: brands publish products to a marketplace at shop.cannabrands.app, where licensed dispensaries browse, request samples and order. Its features page describes cart and checkout, built-in invoicing with automatic payment reminders, a QuickBooks integration for invoice payment tracking, “Compliant delivery documentation generated from your orders”, COA and license tracking, picking and packing, and fleet and delivery management with route sheets. Its dispensary page describes the marketplace as free for licensed retailers.
Its site presents the platform as opening state by state, in the words “Free while we open your state”, with an early-access program, and its pricing page publishes monthly plans per brand that it calls founding-tier indicative. Its features page also describes per-SKU sell-through at each account, a CRM with order history and shelf data, and automations triggered by buyer activity. Its compliance page describes state traceability that syncs order and inventory data with state systems, naming METRC among them. Nothing on its public site, as read, describes recording which buyer opened a menu or what they looked at. A separate site, cannabrands.com, uses the same name for a consumer shelf-price directory; this page is about cannabrands.app.
What WeedShelf is, and is not
WeedShelf is wholesale menu software for licensed cultivators. It reads a cultivator’s inventory from METRC on a scheduled sync and on demand, turns it into a wholesale menu with one private link per dispensary, and records what each buyer does with that link: the open, the products viewed, what went into the cart and in what quantity, and the order. From an order it creates the METRC child packages on adult-use tags, the transfer template, and the emailed invoice; the cultivator dispatches in METRC Connect, as the state requires.
WeedShelf is not an ERP and does not try to be one. It keeps no books, syncs no accounting system, plans no delivery routes, runs no team chat and keeps no public wholesale catalog: no wholesale menu is open to the public. A buyer opens a menu link without an account: the link is the identity. Rhode Island dispensary buyers can also request a WeedShelf buyer account, which WeedShelf reviews and ties to one store; it opens the live menus of every cultivator on WeedShelf’s members-only buyer marketplace, which a cultivator can leave. Rhode Island is the live market. Because WeedShelf works through METRC, a cultivator in Massachusetts or any other state that uses METRC can request access.
Side by side
| Capability | Cannabrands | WeedShelf |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A wholesale platform and marketplace for brands and dispensaries, opening state by state in early access | Wholesale menu software on METRC, live in Rhode Island |
| Buyer needs an account | Its dispensary page describes a marketplace free for licensed retailers | No; the private link is the identity |
| Finding buyers you do not have | Described: brands’ products appear on its marketplace, where licensed dispensaries browse and order | Within Rhode Island: reviewed dispensary buyers can browse every participating cultivator; otherwise WeedShelf starts from the buyers you know |
| Inventory from METRC | Its compliance page describes syncing order and inventory data with state systems, METRC among them | Synced from METRC, with the empty-sync guard |
| Who opened the menu, what they viewed, what they carted | Not described on its site. Its features page describes per-SKU sell-through at each account and automations triggered by buyer activity | The core product |
| Paperwork from an order | Described: compliant delivery documentation generated from orders, and state traceability sync on its compliance page | METRC child packages on adult-use tags, the transfer template, and the manifest PDF after dispatch |
| Invoices and accounting | Described: built-in invoicing with payment reminders and a QuickBooks integration for payment tracking | Emailed invoices; no accounting sync |
| Delivery management | Described: driver management, route sheets, delivery windows and vehicle tracking | None |
| How it charges | Monthly plans per brand on its pricing page, described as founding-tier indicative; free for licensed retailers | Set per account. The default fee is a share of the month’s confirmed sales made through WeedShelf, capped at a monthly fee, so a month with no sales costs nothing; there is no public price list. |
| Markets | Opening state by state, per its site, which names no live state on the pages read | Rhode Island live; Massachusetts and other METRC states by request |
Choose Cannabrands when
- You want a marketplace where dispensaries in your state can find your brand, once it opens there.
- You want invoicing, delivery documents and fleet management in the same tool.
Choose WeedShelf when
- You sell in Rhode Island today and want a menu read from your METRC inventory.
- You want to see what each buyer opened, viewed and put in the cart on the private link you sent them.
Using both
A cultivator can list on a marketplace for discovery and still send a private WeedShelf link to the buyers they already have. The two do not share data, and WeedShelf never lists a menu anywhere public.
Questions
- Is WeedShelf a Cannabrands alternative?
- For selling to buyers you already know, on a menu read from METRC, yes. For an open marketplace in the states it is opening, no: WeedShelf’s buyer marketplace is members-only and in Rhode Island.
- What does Cannabrands cost?
- Its pricing page, read on October 31, 2026, publishes monthly plans per brand that it calls founding-tier indicative, and its dispensary page describes the marketplace as free for licensed retailers. No figure is repeated here.
- Is Cannabrands the same as cannabrands.com?
- Not on the evidence of the two sites. This page is about cannabrands.app, the wholesale platform; cannabrands.com describes a consumer shelf-price directory under the same name.
- Does a dispensary need an account to use a WeedShelf menu?
- No. Each dispensary receives its own private link, and that link is the identity.
- Does WeedShelf connect to METRC?
- Yes. Inventory is read from METRC on a scheduled sync and on demand, with the empty-sync guard, and an order becomes METRC child packages and a transfer template.
- Where does WeedShelf operate?
- Rhode Island today. Massachusetts and the other states that use METRC by request, since WeedShelf works through METRC.
How this page was written
Every statement about Cannabrands is taken from its own public website, cannabrands.app, as read on October 31, 2026; where that site does not describe a capability, the table says so rather than claiming its absence. Statements about WeedShelf are from its own product. No price is quoted for either, because prices change. The methodology page covers what WeedShelf publishes and what it does not.
